Clue Three
Quarter Square Triangles
You will be making forty-eight of these clues!

General Instructions and Hints: Use a quarter inch seam allowance. Sew your fabrics right sides together. Press towards the darker fabric. Use the images to ensure correct placement and directions. WOF= Width of Fabric.

Needed Fabric Yardage
Fabric A: 1/3 yard
Fabric B: ¾ yard
Fabric C: 1/3 yard

Piecing:
The first step is to basically make half square triangles.  Twenty-four from a combination of fabrics A & B, and twenty-four from a combination of fabrics B & C.
A/B Combination. On the wrong side of the squares from A (or whichever square is lightest) draw a line from corner to corner.  Pair up, RST, with twelve squares from B, and sew a quarter inch seam on each side of the drawn line.
Picture
Cut the squares apart ON the drawn line.  Flip triangles open and press seams.   There will be  twenty-four.

Now cut your HST’s in half diagonally to make 48 pieced triangles.
Note: half the triangle’s  will be mirrored- it will work out-but pay attention to that when assembling later!

B/C Combination: Repeat the first steps above, this time using the remaining 5 ½” squares from B, and the twelve 5 ½” squares from C.   You will have 48 pieced triangle’s.

Assemble the Quarter Square Triangles:
Now it’s time to have some fun!  You’re going to sew the A/B combinations to the B/C combinations! (as pictured).

Note: Make sure you sew the right combo of triangle’s together- if you sew the “wrong” (half of them are mirrored) combos together you might end up with something backwards!

Voila!  Forty-eight quarter square triangles!  Flip triangles open, press seams, and square to 4 ½”!
